Bernanke is expected to defend Fed's role to lawmakers

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is expected to face pointed questions from lawmakers today at a Senate banking committee hearing on his renomination. He is also expected to argue against proposed restrictions on the power of the Fed. In August, President Barack Obama nominated Bernanke to serve a second four-year term.
