Job-creation measure is gaining support from White House

Obama administration officials indicated that the White House is moving toward endorsing a job-creation initiative advocated by many congressional Democrats. Christina Romer, chairwoman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said the administration could support efforts to create jobs, including expanded infrastructure spending, assistance targeted specifically to small business and direct payments to homeowners for energy-saving improvements. Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said U.S. President Barack Obama will give a speech next week discussing his ideas on how to stimulate hiring.
