White House drafts update to federal water standards

The White House released a draft of new standards for federal water projects in an overhaul of 1983 standards for the Army Corps of Engineers. The new standards direct the Corps to consider non-monetary benefits to the environment as part of project assessments. The proposed guidelines would affect all federal agencies involved in water planning, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Agriculture Department.
