Economists question warnings about "fiscal cliff" tax hikes

Warnings about grave consequences from tax increases that will result if federal officials fail to avert the "fiscal cliff" are overblown because so few Americans are taxed on investment gains, some economists say. Data from the Investment Company Institute show that 14.7% of households in the U.S. hold mutual funds in taxable accounts, compared with 23.9% in 2001.
