Healthy treats are being served for classroom celebrations

A growing number of schools in a Colorado district have adopted policies banning homemade sugary treats from classrooms. Officials say such bans are necessary to protect students with food allergies and also to ensure classroom celebrations do not detract from schools' focus on health and wellness. Instead of junk food, some parents now are bringing fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers and other healthy snacks to celebrate students' birthdays.
