Mag pubs ponder whether native apps are still preferable

The success of publications consumed on the mobile Web via HTML5 and the difficulty of keeping up otherwise is leading many publishers to reconsider the value of native applications. Financial Times is among the publishers that pulled their Apple native apps for a mobile-Web app, which lifted subscriber numbers. Even New York Media's chief technology officer, Larry Chevres, says that although the company maintains native apps for advantageous features, improvements in HTML are eroding the remaining distinctions.
