Smaller thinking helps Bojangles grow this time around

Charlotte, N.C.-based Bojangles is aiming for fast-but-sensible growth this time around, having learned lessons from the missteps of the 1980s that caused the chicken chain to downsize from 350 to fewer than 200 units. Today, the chain boasts more than 530 eateries and expects to hit $1 billion in sales in the next 18 months, all by growing within a manageable 10-state region, executives say.
