Sprint said to take a pass on MetroPCS bid

Sprint Nextel will focus on closing its $20.1 billion merger with Softbank rather than involve itself with MetroPCS Communications' planned merger with T-Mobile USA, according to a published report that notes investors pushed up MetroPCS shares on Monday in anticipation of Sprint making a bid for the prepaid carrier. Sprint does not want to complicate the government's review of its Softbank deal, the report says, quoting unnamed sources. Sprint did not provide comment.
