Companies wait as Washington decides fate of R&D tax credit

A federal tax break that allows companies to write off some expenses for research and development is set to expire at year-end. Uncertainty surrounding this credit has caused some companies to shift R&D overseas. The Obama administration has proposed extending it, but some in Congress don't want to renew it unless it is part of a broader tax overhaul.
