Report: Premium alcohol performs well as consumption drops

HIgher-priced cocktails, beers and spirits are doing well in restaurants and bars despite an overall reduction in on-premise alcohol consumption expected for 2013 and 2014, according to a Technomic report. Consumers are cutting back on the number of drinks ordered but are moving toward higher-priced craft beers, vodkas and single-malt Scotches. "It's reminiscent of the 'drinking less but drinking better' trend of the early 1990s," said Technomic director of research Eric Schmidt.
