Study links topical fluorouracil with higher risk for type of basal cell carcinoma

Treatment with fluorouracil appears to be associated with a greater chance of developing morpheaform basal cell carcinoma among people who have already had skin cancer, according to a study in JAMA Dermatology. An analysis of data from the Veterans Affairs Topical Tretinoin Chemoprevention study found that use of topical 5-fluorouracil did not increase the risk of other forms of BCC.
