Nonresidential building soars amid housing slump

The nation is faring surprisingly well in light of the housing slump, as construction crews find plenty of work in other areas such as commercial building. Despite the largest decline in housing construction spending since 1991 in the third quarter of this year, nonresidential construction spending was up 27% from a year earlier, the fastest gain in a quarter-century.
