NYC regional schools boss relentlessly pursues success

Even as New York City schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein seeks to shift more authority from superintendents to principals, regional Superintendent Kathleen M. Cashin's success in running her schools lead some to question the wisdom of this part of the school system's restructuring push. Cashin credits the academic gains of her grades 3 through 8 students to clear expectations, math and reading programs tailored to student needs and pupils' use of a graphic organizer as a writing aid.
