Study finds geographic variation in imaging use

Researchers found a considerable amount of variation in the utilization rate of diagnostic imaging among the different geographical areas in the U.S. between 2002 and 2006. They also found that among the specialty groups providing imaging, cardiologists posted the biggest increase in utilization rates. The researchers called for another study to examine the utilization patterns in MR, CT and nuclear medicine.
