N.Y. Senate can't close deal on marriage bill, despite last-minute push

The final push to win New York Senate support for a marriage-equality bill included out New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and other top politicos, but was not joined by Gov. David Paterson. The bill's 38-24 defeat was followed on Thursday night by a large public rally featuring out state Sen. Tom Duane, Paterson and Quinn at New York's Union Square.
