Senate panel grills Bernanke, offers some qualified praise

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke was the target of pointed questions by members of the Senate banking committee during his confirmation hearing Thursday. Chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., tempered his support for how Bernanke handled the financial crisis with a call to strip the Fed of some of its powers. While most Democrats said they support endorsing Bernanke for another term, Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., threatened to block or delay the confirmation vote.
