Experts offer glimpse of framework for assessing environmental literacy

Researchers working on a framework for assessing environmental literacy released a summary of their work, suggesting students should have knowledge and competencies regarding environmental issues, plus dispositions and the ability to demonstrate "environmentally responsible behavior." The framework offers suggested contexts -- such as land use and biodiversity -- in which environmental literacy can be taught, but it will leave to those who reference the guidelines the discretion to choose which of those issues to teach.
