Verizon deal illustrates value of DISH spectrum holdings

Analysts say Verizon Wireless' recent deal to buy wireless spectrum from cable companies for $3.6 billion is great news for DISH Network because of the high premium the deal places on the satellite provider's spectrum holdings. If DISH sold its spectrum at the same rate as the cable companies, the deal would be worth $10 billion. "In the future, spectrum buyers will have to negotiate a deal with the likes of Charlie Ergen and Dish Network, whose strategic value has risen dramatically," BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk wrote in a research note after the deal was announced Friday.
