Clean Wind Energy has secured approval from Arizona regulators to construct the second of two nearly 2,250-foot-tall wind-powered downdraft towers that would generate 850 megawatts of power from turbines in their foundations. Construction of CWE's proposed two-unit project near San Luis, Ariz., is expected to start one to two years from now. Once up and running, the system could generate enough power for 1 million households. The company is planning to build a similar project in Mexico.
