Messaging apps on track to dent wireless-provider revenues

Companies such as Facebook, Apple and Kik are exploiting the shift from text messaging via paid wireless plans to data-network messaging. By 2016, messaging applications that use data networks such as Facebook's new mobile platform are expected to scarf up $54 billion in revenue lost by cell service providers, according to Ovum.
