Study examines CTE in deceased athletes, military personnel

A study being published in the journal Brain characterizes the pathology of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease thought to be linked with brain trauma, into four stages of severity and provides specific pathological criteria for diagnosis. The study looked at the donated brains and spinal cords of 68 athletes and veterans, and the work was carried out by the Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy and the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System.
