Northeast states urge EPA to use RGGI for rule on power plant emissions

The nine Northeast states that make up the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative are urging the Environmental Protection Agency to consider the RGGI system for meeting the national carbon-emissions rule for power plants. "Our experience with RGGI demonstrates that regional cooperation can achieve the most cost-effective emission reductions, enable a transition to a lower-emitting and more-efficient power sector, and create economic benefits and jobs across the United States," the states wrote in a letter to the EPA.
