R.I. Board of Education could be reorganized

A new proposal unveiled Tuesday would reorganize Rhode Island's state Board of Education into two councils -- one for K-12 and one for higher education -- each with its own commissioner and staff. The new structure would be similar to the board that existed before a merger last June, but the reorganization would allow the board to focus on broader issues, said Clark Greene, who was appointed by the governor to carry out the merger. "The centerpiece of this is a single board that is looking at system-wide issues," he said.
