Florida Farmers Lobby For Produce Labels

Florida farmers are urging Congress to add a provision to the 2002 Farm Bill that would require country-of-origin labeling on fresh produce. Food retailers oppose the provision because they say it would cost consumers and taxpayers $1.3 billion and interfere with foreign trade. The measure is sponsored by Sens. Bob Graham, D-Fla., and Tim Johnson, D-S.D.
