Baltimore struggles to implement new middle-school curriculum

To turn around dismal scores by middle-schoolers on the state exam, Baltimore officials this summer rushed to implement Studio Course, a somewhat unconventional reading and writing curriculum that's been used in Denver since 2002 with mixed results. While Baltimore system officials insist they had to make curricular changes quickly, state schools chief Nancy S. Grasmick wants the program audited.
