USDA to launch disease-resistant wheat

The USDA Agricultural Research Service is poised to launch its new disease-resistant winter wheat, Mace, as a foundation seed for wheat breeders and growers. The wheat variety carries the Wsm-1 gene that makes it resistant to the wheat streak mosaic virus, which comes from the wheat curl mite.
