Artificial sweetener is deadly for dogs

For years, veterinarians had suspected the artificial sweetener xylitol had detrimental affects on dogs, and a JAVMA article confirmed those suspicions. The JAVMA article related eight cases of dogs poisoned by xylitol ingestion, and five of the dogs died or were euthanized after illness from the exposure, writes veterinarian Michael Watts.
