Monounsaturated fatty acids offer benefits for diabetes

Eating foods with monounsaturated fatty acids, such as olives, nuts, seeds and avocado, may help people with diabetes or prediabetes control blood sugar and fight belly fat. Certain oils, including canola, flaxseed, olive, peanut and sunflower, also are good sources of monounsaturated fatty acids, along with dark chocolate.
