Flurry: Apps are on track to "challenge broadcast television"

While the average amount of time Americans spend watching TV while surfing the Web with desktop-PC browsers has remained fairly steady in the past two years, the time spent with mobile applications is up 35% this year to an average of 127 minutes a day, according to Flurry. "We ultimately expect apps on tablets and smartphones to challenge broadcast television as the dominant channel for media consumption," Flurry CEO Simon Khalaf said. Meanwhile, Nielsen reports 1 in 5 U.S. homes now has a tablet computer and 40% of those tablet owners use them on a daily basis while watching TV.
