Trevor Paglen, a photographer who holds a doctorate in geography from the University of California, Berkeley, selected photographs to be sent into space as a lasting record of human history. "Making images for the distant future might be akin to making cave paintings for the future," he said. Paglen chose the photos, which were launched into space on a satellite in November, after gathering input from experts in a range of fields.
