Experts call for changes to improve SNF palliative, hospice care

Significant regulatory and financial barriers remain to increasing the use of palliative and hospice care for nursing home patients and no single policy change will be enough to turn the tide, experts write in a Health Affairs blog. CMS should ensure new payment models include palliative and hospice care, policymakers should allow these services to be provided along with skilled nursing facility care, and regulatory reporting provisions should include performance measures suited to patients with advanced illnesses.
