Potential for 10,000 jobs lost as Shell cancels plans for plant in La.

Louisiana has lost 10,000 potential construction jobs that would have been created with the building of Royal Dutch Shell's natural gas-to-diesel conversion plant in Ascension Parish. The company decided to shelve its plans, saying that ballooning costs -- from an estimated $12.5 billion to now more than $20 billion -- mean the plant is no longer economically viable and that it has concerns over the stability of U.S. oil and gas prices in the future.
