Psychology professor Maurice Elias in this blog post offers exercises for students and educators to reflect on the first half of the year and prepare for the next. In one exercise, participants -- in small groups or individually -- write down obstacles keeping them from their goals and mail them to Santa Claus or the North Pole. "The symbolism of sending away what we can't change can be very powerful and liberating for your students -- and for you and your colleagues," he writes.
