Secrets of the canine brain

Functional MRI has allowed researchers to peer into the brains of 13 dogs, indicating the approach can be used to study the inner workings of the species and showing some interesting differences between dogs trained as service animals and those that did not have the training. Service animals showed greater activation of the caudate region of the brain when presented with an indication that a reward was coming. "This may be the first hint of how the brains of dogs with different temperaments and personalities differ," said researcher Gregory Berns.
