Security Council approves French forces for Central African Republic

The United Nations Security Council has approved France's deployment of troops alongside an African peacekeeping contingent to quell the violence in the Central African Republic. The resolution also imposes an arms embargo and leaves the option open for the UN to send in its own peacekeepers. Meanwhile, intense fighting was reported in the capital city of Bangui with at least 80 reported killed.
