Study: Patients find care, support is better with nurse navigators

Cancer patients who were assisted by a nurse navigator soon after diagnosis reported substantially fewer problems in their treatment, particularly psychosocial care and care coordination, compared with a control group that received enhanced standard care, U.S. researchers found. The study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology also found that nurse navigator care was linked to higher Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care scores.
