FDA hears arguments on functional foods

At a public FDA meeting on Tuesday, the food industry urged the FDA to adopt broader functional food labeling. The FDA, however, remains skeptical of both the health claims made by some product manufacturers and the need to regulate food companies. Functional foods are a $27 billion a year business.
