Food companies defend advertising rights

Food companies including Kraft Foods, General Mills, Coca-Cola and Campbell Soup, along with GMA/FPA, responded to the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendations to regulate food advertising toward children by pointing toward industry wide voluntary regulations on advertising. "Adhering to responsible advertising practices is just one of the ways that the food industry is helping to address the serious public health issues of overweight and obesity," said Mary Sophos, GMA/FPA senior vice president of government affairs.
