Cell-phone text messaging celebrates 15 years

The first short-message service communication -- better known as the text message -- was a "Merry Christmas" greeting sent 15 years ago this week by an engineer to a colleague's cellular phone in England. Mike Short, chairman of the Mobile Data Association in England, estimates that as many as 3 trillion text messages are sent each year.
