Tenn. district encourages inventions in gifted-program contest

More than 400 K-8 students in Nashville, Tenn., recently submitted entries in a districtwide "invention convention," targeted at students in the district's Encore gifted program. Educators say the contest -- held every four years -- helps students build critical-thinking skills and utilize trial-and-error techniques to turn ideas into inventions. "When you look at what they have accomplished, it's kind of remarkable what's going on in their brain," one school official said.
