SEC proposes definitions for swap dealers and participants

The Securities and Exchange Commission, as directed by the Dodd-Frank Act, has proposed definitions for securities-based swaps dealers and participants. The definitions will help determine which companies face tougher margin and capital requirements under rules for the over-the-counter derivatives market. The proposals are designed to match similar proposals recently endorsed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
