When it comes to public speaking, expansive, dominant body language not only conveys confidence but also alters your body's hormonal balance to make you perform more effectively, says Harvard Business School professor Amy Cuddy. Even flexing a few times before taking the stage can affect your mood and your performance. In fact, Cuddy says, studies show that bosses tend to perform better if they sprawl back with their feet on their desk for two minutes before a big speech.
