Why citizenship lessons are essential for achievement

Researchers are finding the development of character and civics can be connected to students' academic achievement. Citizenship lessons are absent from many schools, though some are teaching citizenship and civics lessons across the curriculum, not in a single class, writes Jon Schnur, chairman of the board and co-founder of New Leaders. He says this practice likely is to be more common under the Common Core State Standards curriculum.
