Newspapers extend search for fresh revenue streams

Depressing ad sales numbers on both the print and digital sides mean that newspapers need to think more broadly and develop a variety of ways to generate revenue, two publishers say. The Dallas Morning News has launched an events company and is selling digital marketing services to small businesses, for instance. And U-T San Diego is employing its sales force to sell ads and sponsorships for its online TV channel.
