Portable devices can be safely used on planes, FCC chairman says

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski has written to the Federal Aviation Administration, advocating that portable electronic devices can be used during airplane takeoffs and landings without compromising the aircraft's systems. The FAA is reviewing its policies on prohibiting mobile devices from being used by passengers on takeoff and landing. The aviation agency didn't respond to a request for comment on the FCC chairman's letter.
