AAR: Carload, intermodal traffic post gains for November

Freight carload traffic and intermodal volume of U.S. railroads dropped in the week ending Nov. 30 compared with the year-ago levels, but each gained on a monthly basis, according to the Association of American Railroads. Carload activity rose 1.3% in November year-on-year, while intermodal increased 7.8%. "Carload traffic continues to be consistent with an economy that's growing at a moderate pace," said John Gray, AAR senior vice president. "Meanwhile, rail intermodal volume was extremely strong in November, demonstrating the tremendous value that intermodal has become for rail customers."
