Study explores connections among IBS, fibromyalgia and celiac disease

Some patients with irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia also showed clinical signs associated with celiac disease, Spanish researchers reported. Data showed about 30% of patients with IBS and fibromyalgia had a family history of celiac disease, and patients saw symptom improvement using a gluten-free diet. The study teams wrote that the case study indicates "some of the misdiagnosed IBS/FMS cases could suffer from an underlying CD, which can contribute to the IBS and FMS symptoms, development and maintenance."
