Import duties on Canadian softwood chopped by half

After an annual review, the U.S. Commerce Department says it plans to slash import duties on Canadian softwood lumber by nearly half, from the previous total of 20.15% to 10.81%. The agency maintains, however, its assertion that Canadian provinces essentially subsidize timber by offering inexpensive logging rights on public land.
