Senator urges EPA to conduct cleanup study, may block nominees

A Montana senator wants the EPA to conduct a study to verify that its cleanup of massive asbestos contamination in Libby, Mont., is effective. Democratic Sen. Max Baucus says he will block confirmation of all EPA nominees until the agency agrees to conduct the study. "It's been seven years, and the EPA can't tell us whether or not their cleanup activities are working," Baucus says. "That's a disgrace. And that's why nobody from EPA will move through the Senate until we get this fixed."
