FMI supports increased FDA funding to help safeguard food supply

FMI joined Senate leaders, consumer advocacy organizations and other trade groups to request a funding increase for the Food and Drug Administration. A recent study commissioned by the agency reported that it cannot adequately police the country's food supply. "To the extent that the FDA might need some additional funding to accomplish their mission, we would certainly support that," said Tim Hammonds, president and CEO of FMI. "The other side of this is that the government agencies would never have enough resources and enough people to do this total job of ensuring food safety from farm to table by themselves -- industry has to play an increasingly important role in that whole process."
